Recently I was watching 24 Hour Panel People and in the programme there was the usual insert of what Red Nose Day was all about. David Tennant actually stated that there were people who watched Red Nose Day and did not send money to the 'charity'. I have always thought that charity was about giving to those charities that you support and not just because you are watching a TV programme.
I and many others pay for this event through the TV license. It should be noted that on one of the series of panel games that make up 24 Hour Panel People it was stated quite categorically that the 'celebrities' were being paid for their appearances.
On the main Red Nose Day programme all the celebrities may give their time for free but in the Green Room it will be well stocked with free food and drink. I have no doubt that all the celebrities will be given accomodation in the top hotels in London and other regions. Of course, the other substantial costs will be production costs in terms of sets and other BBC staff which will be drafted in to cover the event.
We should not put up with this emotional blackmail by Tennant and the other so-called celebrities that probably give money to charities but do so only as a tax right-off to benefit themseleves as well as others.
